My computer done died, my motherboard first confirmed a video card error, but when running of the onboard video with card removed getting a motherboard error. Shit is deadly and I am considering replacing. I keep going to smaller form factors and am considering a laptop with expandable graphics and hot shit inside. Show me something better than this:
http://shop.lenov...A34E4DBC9A
15-17" screen size desired, 64bit, no intergrated graphics preferred. 15 to 17 seems to be a benchmark in form factor and video card size so the great one may only be 17", dunno.
Thoughts, suggestions, links?
I got some traveling ahead so I hope to have this resolved before I get back, but expect intermittent play from me on APB through mid August until then.

Need more RAM.
I have had good experience laptop gaming though it you do it right. For 3 years my laptop played games better than my desktop. I'd always put the idea of looing at Quanta, Acer, and ASUS lappy's.

I recommend this: http://www.pcmech...
Build your own PC. Then you don't have to worry about warranties, or customer service, or anything bloated like that from a big company. It's also a helluva lot cheaper. I plan to do this with my next comp. This one is about 3 years old, an HP my dad bought. Creat computer, but I'm certain that I can build a rig as powerful as a current top-of-the-line gaming computer for a third of the cost.
Unless you need a laptop for portable/traveling purposes. In that case, I would recommend going to CNet.com for laptop reviews. They'll compare many different models and brands, and you can choose what fits your style.

I am done building PCs. I got $$$ and intend to use them. And don't even pretend to lecture me on warranties brother. I hate having to RIP shit out every time something is busted to send it back, its nice dealing with a single company sometimes. You know what you get with warranties? You get to call a dude and have him mail you the part you need by 3pm the same day. Let you dad tell me what he thinks since clearly he's the one making the purchasing decisions, thanks.

Yes, that link was to the base configuration, I currently run 8GB of DDR2, and plan to keep it at a similar spec, though for DDR3 I think bundles will probably be 6GB or 12GB if most efficient. Still searching, but never in my life have I had more motivation to just buy a laptop from a store, in person. (Bletch! Whats happening to me.)
Anyone running i5 or i7s. My last CPU were AMD, and ATI card. I am consider nVidia for physX nonsense, thoughts. But I also am unsure at what the clock speeds are benching at. I hate buying computers, I get lost in Tom's Hardware for weeks.

I can't find the thread about your LCN logos. If you ever have spare time (and a computer), can you make the one with the puppet strings and the LCN letters with a black background? I'll give you monies.

I'm running an i7 930.. awesome processor and the best price for what you get. Unless you want to spend money on an extreme. I just built a new rig minus video card for about 1000 bucks CDN. EVGA mobo, corsair DDR3 triple channel ram, corsair modular PSU, raptor drives (since SSD is still expensive) You should be able to build something real sweet for that price. As for the RAM, I got 6GB Dominator series.. I think anything over 6 is overkill unless you're doing video editing and shit like that, I just game so not really worried.
But yesterday I finally bought a new card. Got myself a GTX 470.. it pwns!

RAGH! Oh my god not bulding this my self.
Tetra, thats for the info, the base clock speeds of the i7 are around 2.0ghz, just assuming most of the speed increases then come from the increased cache size? Was just worried about how the new processors translate into older system spec requirements; thats all.
Considering anything with a nVidia Geforce 480m at the moment, which seems to be an underclocked 465. Any been reading reviews or running one of the DX11 chips?

Why not build? It's friggin' easy..
My i7 starst at 2.8 but I got it at 3.2 right now.. I would go with a 470, for the price range and performance it's great. |

You should be building all your PC yourself dude. You can't skimp on parts though. If you want a computer that is super reliable you have to buy the best parts available on the market. If you skimp on parts, that's when you end up ripping them out and having to exchange them. I've built a bunch of computers already and that's been my lesson learned.
I've built some cheap comps for people that work fine and are still running with no problems. Still, all high end parts are made with a level of quality you don't get from cheap to average parts.

If you're getting a laptop, if you don't care about gaming, go buy an Asus netbook, really awesome battery life and portability (sorry I only skimmed through the OP post).
Building PCs seem to be the way to go, I'd like to do that one day

ZOMG!!! I had the incredibly long post about how building this PC is a waste of time at this point, that I have built and still do build plenty of PC, but I'ld prefer a laptop and I'm not retarded and how I discovered a piece of metal that fell from my PSU onto my motherboard, possibly cause the problem. IT WAS GOD DAMN STICKER, like a 1/16" laser cut aluminum decal that fell from the damn PSU, like that was expected???
This was the abbreviated version.

Yeah something like that happened to me as well, but it didn't cause any serious damage.

These were all just pipe dreams, in the end I couldn't justify the $4000 plus for a laptop I liked, so I upgraded some parts and Windows is reinstalling now.
